Are executives/celebrities funnier?
I recently attended a company-wide town hall meeting, and I noticed everyone laughed just about every silly, not dumb but silly and non-hurtful, commentary made by the executives. Then, it got me thinking: are they indeed funnier type on the planet.
Although I do not record any meetings, the same rule applied to celebrities (including sports athletes). Below is a recent interview with this NBA player who could not get the microphone to work. People were laughing at this “silly” moment.
Below is a clip of singer song writer John Mayer re-enacting when he was six-year-old on Ellen.
I think the idea is clear.
I am not suggesting there is anything wrong here. I could not figure out a definitive answer to this funny phenomenons happening during meetings and on TVs. I highly suspect that it would be a combination of all or parts of the below.
- These are the people with immense influences so one may expect perfect behaviors. The juxtaposition of perfect behaviors and silly comments made it funny.
- One may wish to create a pleasant experience with people in power.
- Unexpected silly moments during a serious setting
I am not quite sure yet. However, I do call upon everyone who read through the article to pay more attentions to your next town hall meetings, interviews with celebrities etc. Whenever laughter comes on, rewind and recall the line before: what was it actually funny?
